The $20 DLC features a three-hour campaign staring Scorpio Squad, complete with single player and three-player co-op support. Hoffman also returns in the DLC, barking orders from behind a desk to the Outsiders turned soldiers. The team is led by Victor Hoffman, the no-nonsense military man who commanded Marcus Fenix and his squadmates throughout most of the original Gears of War trilogy.
Collectively known as Scorpio Squad, they also got a five-issue comic book about their exploits. Players may remember the characters from Escape, an experimental co-op PvE mode in Gears 5 that sat alongside the more traditional Horde experience. In addition, the next-gen Operation 5: Hollow Storm update added a quartet of multiplayer maps, seven new characters, and the Scorcher flamethrower last seen in Gears of War 3. New optimizations for the game went live alongside the new consoles, making Gears 5 one of the best showpieces for those who just couldn't wait to get the new hardware at home.
Gears 5 has already been in the recent spotlight thanks to its part in launching the Xbox Series X|S.
